JOB PURPOSE
A carpenter builds, repairs, and installs structures and items made from wood and other materials. Carpenters work in homes, buildings, construction sites, and workshops.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Construct, install, repair, and maintain furniture, cabinetry, doors, partitions, roofing, framing, and other wooden structures.
- Interpret and work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, measurements, and construction plans to ensure accurate execution of projects.
- Measure, mark, cut, shape, and assemble wood, plywood, drywall, and other construction materials using hand and power tools.
- Operate carpentry tools, machinery, and equipment safely and efficiently while adhering to workplace safety regulations and procedures.
- Inspect completed work to ensure quality standards, accuracy, durability, and compliance with specifications.
- Select appropriate materials, hardware, and finishes required for each project and maintain knowledge of carpentry materials and building supplies.
- Design, fabricate, and customize wooden fixtures and structures according to client or company requirements.
- Repair damaged structures, furniture, and fixtures, including replacing defective parts and restoring functionality.
- Collaborate with supervisors, contractors, and other tradesmen to coordinate construction and maintenance activities.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times.
- Perform routine maintenance on carpentry tools and equipment to ensure proper functionality and safety.
- Estimate material requirements and assist in controlling waste and project costs.
- Follow all occupational health and safety standards, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ensure projects are completed within established timelines and according to company standards.
- Assist with general construction and maintenance tasks as required.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- Certification or training in Carpentry or a related trade is an asset.
- Previous experience in carpentry, construction, or woodworking preferred.
- Valid occupational safety training certification is an advantage.

- Sound knowledge of carpentry techniques, methods, and materials.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
- Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, and woodworking equipment.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy materials and work in various conditions.
