JOB PURPOSE
A Civil Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, supervising, and maintaining infrastructure and construction projects such as roads, bridges, buildings, drainage systems, and other public works.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, plan, and develop infrastructure and construction projects including roads, bridges, buildings, drainage systems, utilities, and other civil engineering works.
- Prepare engineering drawings, technical specifications, project schedules, budgets, cost estimates, and feasibility studies for proposed projects.
- Conduct site inspections, land surveys, soil testing reviews, and technical assessments to evaluate project requirements and site conditions.
- Supervise and monitor construction activities to ensure projects are completed according to approved plans, specifications, timelines, and quality standards.
- Coordinate with contractors, architects, surveyors, consultants, and project teams to ensure effective communication and successful project execution.
- Ensure compliance with engineering standards, environmental regulations, building codes, and occupational health and safety requirements.
- Review and approve construction materials, methods, and workmanship to maintain quality control throughout all stages of construction.
- Identify, analyze, and resolve engineering, structural, and construction-related issues that may arise during project execution.
- Prepare progress reports, technical documentation, project updates, and presentations for management and stakeholders.
- Monitor project costs, material usage, and labour productivity to help control budgets and reduce project delays.
- Inspect completed work and recommend corrective actions where necessary to ensure compliance with contractual and engineering requirements.
- Utilize engineering software and computer-aided design (CAD) programs to prepare and review designs and technical plans.
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers, technicians, and construction personnel.
- Participate in project planning meetings, risk assessments, and safety reviews to improve operational efficiency and project outcomes.
- Maintain accurate project records, drawings, permits, and engineering documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Professional engineering certification or licence is an asset.
- Previous experience in construction, infrastructure, or civil engineering projects preferred.
- Proficiency in engineering software and CAD programs.
- Strong knowledge of engineering principles, construction methods, and safety regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines.
